Describe what is meant by antigen presentation Flashcards
1
Q
What is an antigen?
A
Antigens are molecules present on the surface of cells which trigger an immune response
2
Q
What does antigen presentation mean?
A
Antigen presentation in the expression of antigen molecules on the surface of a macrophage or other antigen-presenting cells
3
Q
Presentation to what, how, where?
A
Antigen presentation is a process that allows T cells to recognise antigenetic epitopes displayed on the surface of an antigen-presenting cell. MHC proteins bind to peptide fragments and carry them to the cell surface, and present them there along with a co-stimulatory signal to the t cells.
