Dermatology Flashcards
What diagnosis is associated with “glistening alopecia” in cats?
Pancreatic adenocarcinoma
Cause(s) of superficial necrolytic dermatitis in dogs?
Severe liver disease (called hepatocutaneous syndrome)
Glucagonoma
Hypothesis:
1) Decreased hepatic function > decrease in glucagon degradation (as glucagon is degraded by the liver) > increased glucagon in the peripheral circulation > increased gluconeogenesis and hypoaminoacidemia > amino acid deficiency in the epidermis
2) Decreased hepatic function > hypoalbuminemia > not enough albumin to carry zinc and fatty acids (essential nutrients to the epidermis)
What condition is associated with anal furunculosis?
Colitis (granulomatous IBD) associated with other immune-mediated conditions
