(Stains light haircoats; toxic in cats)
For seborrhea oleosa:
-Benzoyl peroxide (Pyoben gel, OxyDex)
- Acute moist dermatitis (“hot spots”, superficial pyoderma)
- Selenium sulfide (Seleen Plus shampoo, Selsun Blue shampoo)
Topical Antipruritics
Pruritis=itching
-provide temporary and mild relief
Dosage Forms:
- Topical anesthetics- end in –aine; (Xylocaine, ResiPROX)
- Oatmeal is a soothing agent (Epi-Sooth, Oatderm shampoos)
- Antihistamine (Histacalm shampoo and spray)
- Corticosteroid (Gentocin Spray, Vetalog Cream, Panolog Cream,)
Fatty Acid Supplements
-responsible for smooth texture and luster of coat
Linoleic (omega-6) and linolenic (omega-3) can not be synthesized in the dog, arachidonic acid can not be synthesized in the cat and so are essential fatty acids
May be helpful in heart disease, cancer autoimmune disease and rheumatoid arthritis
