Derivatives of Mesoderm Flashcards
What happens to mesoderm during days 17-21?
Paraxial, intermediate and lateral mesoderm plates form
What does intermediate mesoderm become?
Gonads
Kidneys
What does chordamesoderm become?
Notochord
What does paraxial mesoderm become?
Somites which then become:
Sclerotome
Myotome
Dermatome
What does lateral plate mesoderm become?
Splanchnic
Somatic
What happens to paraxial mesoderm in week 3?
Segments fold craniocaudally to form somitomeres
What is a somitomere?
Concentric whorls of mesoderm arranged in tight ball, 1 on each side of midline.
Paired formation=somite
How many pairs formed by week 5?
42-44
What will sclerotome form?
Ribs and vertebrae
What will myotome form?
Muscles of the back
What will dermatome form?
Dermis and subcutaneous tissue of skin
What are the 2 main cavities of the body?
Ventral cavity
Dorsal cavity
What are the cavities in the ventral cavity?
Thoracic
Abdominopelvic
What are the cavities in the dorsal cavity?
Cranial
Vertebral
What will the mesoderm cells of parietal layer do?
Form thin membranes, the serous membranes, which will line the peritoneal, pleural, and pericardial cavities and secrete serous fluid
