What is the crown?
portion of tooth above gingiva
What is the Root
Portion of tooth below gingiva
What is the Cementum
Mineralized portion of tooth that covers the root
What is the gingivae?
The mucous membrane tissue of the mouth
What is the gingival sulcus?
The little pocket where the tooth meets the gingivae
What is the pulp?
Center of the tooth (canal) contains soft tissue, blood vessels and nerves
What is the dentin?
Pourous, boney substance between the pulp and cementum/enamel.
What are the periodontal ligaments?
Attach cementum to surrounding bone

What are the 3 types of teeth clad their functions?
Incisors: front of mouth, picking things up
Canines: Big fangs, used for grasping or tearing
Premolars/molars: Back of mouth, used for shearing or grinding
What are primary teeth?
Puppy/Kitten teeth
What is a brachycephalic face?
A flat face that does not have a scissor bite
What is the normal bite arrangement for a dog?
Scissor
What is periodontal disease?
Disease of the 4 structures of periodontal
How common is periodontal disease in cats and dogs?
80% of dogs and 70% of cats have some form of it.
