Rationalization
Attempting to justify actions with excuses to make it seem more logical.
Repression
Pushing painful memories, usually childhood trauma, back into the unconscious in attempt to forget about it.
Denial
Refusing to accept the reality of something that makes you anxious.
Projection
A projection of your inner anxieties onto your actions to reduce anxiety.
Reaction Formation
Replacing your unacceptable anxieties with the opposite outward feeling/action.
Regression
Returning to old habits, usually les mature ones, because they brought comfort at a younger age.
Displacement
Taking out anger and/or frustration on a less powerful substitute.
Sublimination
Redirecting a forbidden desire into a socially acceptable desire.
Compensation
Making up for a weakness or deprivation in one area by excelling in another.
Fantasy
Daydreaming, escaping from reality to create one in your mind that is completely unachievable.
Indentification
Trying to model someone to admire to fit in and be more likely to fit in.
