Deep Vein Thrombosis Flashcards
What are manifestations of a DVT
Swollen, red, warm or cool extremity
Painful
How can DVT be prevented? (5)
Ted stockings SCDs Early mobilization and leg exercises Dalteparin Lifestyle modifications
What two forms of pharmacology would destroy and prevent further clots from forming (DVT)
Anticoagulants
Thrombolytics
What sort of pharmacology would be used in a patient with a DVT? (4)
Unfractioned heparin
LMWH
Oral anticoags
Thrombolytics
What must be monitored while giving unfractioned heparin? What is the half life like in comparison to LMWH
PTT
shorter half life than LMWH. That’s why patient is started on heparin then bridged to LMWH as the half life is longer and takes longer to kick in. Same with Coumadin.
What are risk factors of DVT?
Endothelial damage
Venous stasis
Altered coagulation
