Q
What are 3 levels of fever?
A
- mild (low pyrexia) fever goes up by 0.5 c
- pyrexia, fever goes up to 3 c
- hyperpyrexia, more than 3 c
2
Q
Common situation that leads to metabolic alkalosis?
A
- loss of H ions from ECF - vomoiting in monogastric animals, increased urea in blood
- intake alkaloid substances
- increased retention of base & Na in body, ptyalism- ‘high salivation’ (horse & cattle)
- diuretics
loss or depletion of potassium from body in hypokalemia
3
Q
Common situation that leads to respiratory alkalosis?
A
- hyper ventilation (central)
- hyper ventilation (peripheral)
4
Q
Common situation that leads to metabolic acidosis?
A
- increased endogenous production of acids, or intake of exogenous acid into body
- decrease in renal excretion of H ions
- body loss of bicarbonate from GIT
5
Q
Common situation that leads to respiratory acidosis?
A
- neuromuscular disorder
- obstruction to gas movement or diffusion with lungs
- some abnormalities of chest wall
- disorder of lung parenchyma
- hypercapnia in inspired air
