5 Types of Grieving
“Normal” or uncomplicated - negative emotions that change to acceptance with time; may have somatic complaints
Anticipatory - ex. mother cries because daughter is going away for college in the Fall
Delayed - client may be unable or willing to grieve at the time of the loss; may drive days, months or years after
Complex - loss complicated by strong emotions like guilt or bitterness
Disenfranchised Grief - loss that cannot be publicly shared/not socially acceptable ex. abortion
