DD - Amino Acids Flashcards
What is the zwitterionic form?
A neutral molecule containing a positively charged NH3+ group and a negatively charged COO- group
How do you differentiate between L and D isomers?
Looking down from H to (Central) Carbon:
- If reading CORN is CLOCKWISE, shows L-isomer
- If reading CORN is ANTICLOCKWISE shows D-isomer
Name the 10 non-polar amino acids
- Glycine
- Alanine
- Valine
- Leucine
- Isoleucine
- Proline
- Methionine
- Tryptophan
- Phenylalanine
- Cysteine
Name the 5 uncharged polar amino acids
- Serine
- Threonine
- Tyrosine
- Asparagine
- Glutamine
What are the 2 negatively charged polar amino acids?
- Aspartic Acid
- Glutamic Acid
Name the 3 positively charged polar amino acids
- Lysine
- Arginine
- Histidine
How do amino acids join together?
A condensation reaction joins the Carboxyl group and an amine group- releasing H2O (Forms Peptide bond)
How is the linear protein sequence read?
N-to C-terminal
