Day Of Exam Flashcards
What are the benefits of victim surveys
Allows researchers to understand the relationship between certain crimes and what ethnicity the person was commuting the crime
Ex. From victimismo surveys it’s clear to see that crimes of “mugging” are more likely to be prepretated by someone black
What are the negatives of victim surveys
Philip and bowlleing argue that due to the surveys being from memory white victims may say the perpetrator was black when they can’t remember
Only covers personal crime which makes up 1/5 of all crimes
Positives of self crime surveys
Break the stigma that black people are more likely to commmit crimes
Found that 46% white people had committed a crime with only 44% of black and 13% Pakistani
This helps to challenge the data collected by the police throfuh stop and searches and victim surveys wich may hold racist bias
