Messages of hope for God’s people in the midst of Gentile rule.
Chapter 3
Shadrach, Mishach and Abednego tested and sent in the fiery furnace only to be rescued by God. *where’s Daniel? 2:49
Chapter 1
Daniel and his friends from the exile are promoted in the land and tested with assimilation to the Babylonian culture but do not eat the food and are exalted by God.
Chapter 6
Daniel tested about praying to the Median King Darius, tricked by his officials. Daniel rescued from the lions and Darius glorifies God with a doxology!
Chapters 4 & 5
2 Gentile kings both filled with pride because of their power are warned by God and told to humble themselves. Then a contrast between one king who finally does and one king who doesn’t and is killed. It reflects mankind’s choice as a ruler of the earth and echos Genesis.
Chapter 4
Nebuchadnezzar has another dream that Daniel interprets it with a warning. One year later it comes to pass and Nebuchadnezzar is humbled, then restored.
Chapter 5
N’s son, Belshazzar, honours the gods of gold and silver, etc. He knows his grandad’s story but he doesn’t continue in his tradition but goes the way of the world and receives judgment. “Numbered, numbered, weighed and divided.” He tries to buy God off by honouring Daniel but he’s killed that night.
