Cytoskeletal Filaments Flashcards
Which filaments are polar? why?
microtubules and actin - because they have motor proteins that move cargo along them from + to - end and vice versa.
What types of filaments are most cilia made of?
microtubules
what filaments are muscle fibers made of?
actin
what filaments are flagellar tails of sperm made of?
microtubules
what filaments are mitotic spindles made of?
microtubules
what filaments make up the contractile ring in dividing cells?
actin
What is Pemphigus?
autoimmune disease in which antibodies disrupt the adhesion proteins that connect intermediate filaments that hold together skin
kinesin
motor protein - walks towards the + or - end along the lattice of the microtubule.
Myosin
motor protein - walks on actin, plus or minus end.
Dyenin
motor protein -walks on microtubules towards the minus end.
How do cilia and flagella move?
dyeing transiently binds to adjacent microtubule and walks down toward the anchored base (- end) causing it to bend. When dyenin then detaches, the cilia whip back
Why does ciliary diskinesia cause situs inverses?
cilia do not move and therefore cannot direct the morphogen that creates L/R sides of the body embryonically to the left side, so it sometimes ends up on the right side. if on both or neither side - lethal
