Cysts Flashcards
What is a cyst
A cyst is a pathological cavity containing fluid, semi-fluid or gaseous content
Not created by accumulation of pus
Wholly or partly lined by epithelium
How do u divide cysts
Epithelial non-epithelial
Odontogenic non-odontogenic
Inflammatory developmental
Examples of odontogenic cysts of inflammatory origin
Radicular cyst- lead to residual cyst
Inflammatory collateral cysts- include paradental cysts, mandibular buccal bifurcation cysts
Odontogenic developmental cyst examples
Dentigerous cysts- eruption cysts
Odontogenic keratocyst
Lateral periodontal cyst- subtype: botryoid odontogenic cyst
Non odontogenic cysts
Nasiolabial cyst
Nasopalatine cyst
Globulomaxillary cyst
Median cyst
Non-epithelial cyst
Solitary bone cyst
Aneurysmal bone cyst
Stafne’s idiopathic bone cavity
Obtaining material for histology
Aspiration biopsy- drainage of contents
Incisional biopsy- partially removed
Excisional biopsy- completely removed
