Vasodilation of arteries + veins
What is the IN-DEPTH MOA of Glyceryl Trinitrate (GTN)? (5 steps)
- Causes relaxation of Vasc SMC
- Arteriolar + Venous dilation
- Increased blood flow to Myocardium
- Reduced Cardiac preload + afterload
- Decreases myocardial wall stress (aka Angina symptoms)
What route should Glyceryl Trinitrate (GTN) be given? (3 things)
- Sublingual (spray / tablets) for angina
- IV for HF
- Rectum (ointment) for anal fissures
What are the Min / Max Doses for Glyceryl Trinitrate (GTN)?
- Min: 400 micrograms
- Max: 800 micrograms (2 doses 5 mins apart)
What are the Monitoring Requirements for Glyceryl Trinitrate (GTN)?
BP + HR (when given by IV)
What are the Side fx of Glyceryl Trinitrate (GTN)? (5 things)
- Dizziness
- Nausea
- Anaemia
- Hypoglycaemia
- Postural hypotension
What advice should you tell a patient taking Glyceryl Trinitrate (GTN)? (2 things)
- Show them how to administer spray sublingually
- Seek medical help if 2 doses 5 mins apart don’t resolve symptoms

- Anaemia
- Raised ICP (bc cerebral haemorrhage)
- Aortic / Mitral Stenosis
- Cardiac tamponade
- Constrictive pericarditis
- Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy

- Hypothermia
