CVD: lecture Flashcards
What do CRP and ESR indicate in a blood test?
CRP = inflammation marker
ESR = inflammation marker
What does a third heart sound mean?
3rd heart sound you could hear if your heart is very weak (=stretching of heart muscle, it is stiff)
How can arrhythmia lead to clot formation?
Prone to clot formation because of this fast, irregular beating. Atria also contracts very fast: blood standing still in ends of atria. Clot can get to your brain and cause a stroke.
How does furosemide work to relieve dyspnoea?
Dyspnoea= shortness of breath
Furosemide: if the heart diminishes the amount of blood pumped around bc it is weak, the brain thinks there is not enough blood and thus not enough water: it increases retention of fluids by the kidneys. There is not enough space within your blood vessels to keep this amount of fluid in: starts to leak out of the vessels, which happens all in your body.
Patients with heart failure have thick ankles. When you lie all day in bed: in butt, etc
Same problems arises within lungs: alveoli get filled with fluid. You get very short of breath: suffocating. Fluid has to leave the body: diuretic drugs induce the kidney to make more urine. Overload fluid diminished.
A heart that starts to fibrillate is a typical sign for …
And can only be stopped with…
Acute heart failure
with a lot of current through the body (defibrillator).
Very fast heart rhythm = >200 p/m
More than 180 p/m is very high already
150 p/m exercise
ok
Enlargement of the heart nearly always means…
weakened
