Describe Hofstede’s individualism/ collectivism?
- Degree of focus on individual or collective achievement and interpersonal relationships
- High individualism has individual rights and a large number of lose relationships
- High collectivism has more focus on the group and extended families
Describe Hofstede’s uncertainty avoidance?
-Level of tolerance to uncertainty and ambiguity within a society
Describe Hofstede’s Power distance?
- Strength of social hierarchy
- The degree of equality or inequality
- Relates to the cockpit gradient

- The degree that a society does or done not reinforce male achievement, control and power
- High masculinity has more competitions
- High Femininity has less competition

-The extent of a society’s future orientated perspective

- Indulgent culture is about being free and following your impulses and desires. Friends are important and life makes sense
- Restrained culture is the feeling that life is hard. Duty, not freedom, is the normal state of being

What is organisational culture and what are its effects on a company?
- Made up of values, beliefs, assumptions, rituals, symbols and behaviours
- Has surface level/ visible behaviours and physical things, and has deep layer of beliefs and subconscious assumptions
- Significant impact on safety and performance of company
- Shapes workers perceptions of safety, importance of safety, and members activities regarding safety
How can organisational culture be strengthened? Briefly describe each?
- Role models: supervisors are active promoters of safety
- Recruitment: Shared values and vision. You can train skills and knowledge but you can’t train attitude
- Organisational Language: Publications, mission statements, policy
- Winning team: Healthy competition, on time targets, rewards, bonuses.

What is the definition of harassment?
Any unwanted and unwarranted behaviour that a person finds offensive, intimidating or humiliating and is repeated, or significant enough as a single incident to have a detrimental effect upon a person’s dignity, safety and well-being. The behaviour can range from causing slight embarrassment to criminal acts.
What are the options for someone who is being harassed?

What are the 5 components of safety culture? Briefly describe each?
- Informed culture: Management and operations have current knowledge about factors that determine the safety of the system as a whole
- Reporting culture: Culture/climate where people are prepared to report their errors and near-misses
- Just culture: People encouraged to provide essential safety related information. It must be clear what is acceptable and unacceptable behaviour
- Flexible culture: Organisation is able to reconfigure itself to adapt to changes.
- Learning culture: Organisation has the willingness and competence to draw the right conclusions from its safety information system will ti implement major reforms.
