- aim to make international impact

- dependant on health of global, regional, national economies
- many TNCs have HQ in ACs and invest back into ACs
- however TNC originating from EDCs have been increasing regionally
- China is the biggest overseas investor

Role of planners and architects
A
- architecture can make an important contribution to placemaking through the design of buildings
- design may reflect the history and culture of the place
- some designs may lead to crime, vandalism and high maintenance costs

- e.g Cairo and Mumbai
- include night buses, developed underground links that run through the night
- 24hr McDonalds and gyms/ hairdressers
- due to population changes, more people working shifts, international tourism
- aim to alter perceptions of cities being unsafe at night

- community organisation have established what influences the making of a new place from the point of local residents
- concerned with housing, community and environmental matters (parking spaces)
