- small settlement
- east bank of the River Exe
- 15km south of Exeter
- extensive tidal mudflats
- small beach with pebbles and gravel

Past characteristic
A
- established by the Saxons
- in the 13th century it was one of the channel trading links
- links with sea developed into the 19th century
- estuary was used for fishing and shellfish industry
- tourism in the 1840s grew due to wealthier families wanting to be by the sea
- lead to changes in the built environment
- development of the railway increased connectivity (improved shellfish industry) and improved the ability to get to Exeter
- strong sense of community retained

- top-heavy age structure
- relatively homogeneous ethnically
- dominated by agriculture and tourism which provided fewer jobs for immigrants
- that is changing in Exeter and Plymouth due to second and third generation immigrants
- 98.9% white and 1.1% non white

- development of the knowledge economy has benefited Lympstone positively
- 1/3 of its residents are employed as managers, directors or senior officials
- Met office moved from Reading to Exeter
- strong economic status and jobs for locals
- Exeter now has a uni( higher education)
