Crystalls Flashcards
Crystalline
stucrture that has atoms in a stuctured order. Diamonds, snowflakes
Pollycrystaline
solids that contain many small cyrstlas and grians. these fuse together to form a solid. examples most metals, cermaics.
Amourhpous
has atoms in nor particular order or structure. example. glass, wax
simple cubic atom
a unit cell that consits of one atom. A unit cell that consist of one atom
Body centered atom
a unit cell where an atom is formed in the center of the cube. total 2 atoms. tends to be stronger and less malleable. examples Cr, mo, room temperature Fe
Face centered cubic.
a unit cell where atoms form on each faces. total 4 atoms. tends to be more ductile. Cu, Al, Ag, Au
instretial defect
occurs when a atom slips between a gpa in the atoms in the existing latice. same elem
subsitianial defect
atoms are completly replaced by atoms.
important for the shrinkage of metals espically in casting
Dendrites
Space lattice
the proper arragment for atoms in a crystal
