Cryptosporidium- mammals and birds Flashcards
Causes in mammals
parvum and muris
Mammals: sample and staining
Flotation- oocysts in faeces
Kinyuon- firstly boil and wash with alcohol (because of thick wall)- thick wall=red, thin wall=white
ZN
Giemsa
oocysts have 4 sporozoites!
Mammals: position of parasite
Extracytoplasmic
IC
There’s no direct connection
Mammals: Shape
Spherical oocysts- thick or thin walled
Thin wall- sporulates inside host- autoinfection, requires oxygen!!
Host and vector
Host: euryxenous (mammals and birds)= C. baileyi
Host: homogenous (air, water, dust)= C. parvum
Mammals: life cycle/development
1) infects cell
2) membrane forms on the cell surface
3) is now IC but extracytoplasmic
Mammals: Clinical signs
autoinfection!!!
Dyspnoea
acute Dx
Watery/pasty faeces with mucous shreds
Mammals: Patho signs
catarrhal enteritis in ileum
cellular infiltration of propria
In the case of muris- also in the digestive glands of the abomasum
Causes in brids
baileyi
meleagridis
Birds: sample and method
Flotation- oocysts in faeces
Kinyuon- firstly boil and wash with alcohol (because of thick wall)- reddish fuschin stain
Giemsa
*exact same as for mammals!
Birds: Clinical signs
Subclinical!
Resp in broilers- coughing, sneezing
Are infected via the air
Birds: Patho signs
Inflamm of air sacs
Pneumonia
Sinusitis
Histo changes: SI, LI, cloaca, Bursa fabricii
