Phase one of phases of a crisis
Crisis happens..person becomes anxious.. attempt to problem solve and use defense mechanism
Phase 2 of phases of crisis
Defense mechanism fails and anxiety escalates try a different trial and error of problem solving
Phase 3
Trial and error not working and panic develops
Anxiety is severe
Fight or flight
Phase 4
Anxiety overwhelming , violence, depression , suicide ideation may occur
Person becomes disorganized and unable to cope
Dissociative symptoms :derealization, depersonalization

Tension building phase
Serious battering phase

Edgy
Minor explosions
Verbally abusive
Minor hitting , slapping
And other incidents may begin

Feels tense and afraid like walking on egg shells
Feels helpless . Becomes compliant , accepts blame

Catharsis
Expression of anger, aggression but safe activities
Releasing anger emotion but not doing it in a harmful way
Suppression
Holding anger in - instead of releasing it
They explode eventually so we dont want them to do that
Agression and violence
Can be defined as hurting others physically or psychologically
Can be appropriate and self protective
Can be overt or covert
Violence
Does not always come from anger
Intent to do harm

Depressed, poor apetite, insomnia, loss of interest, guilt , dream of dead, spiritually shaken or strengthen , disappointment , self isolation
Normal grief
Anything up to two years
Anticipatory grief
Grieve early (someone has cancer) may feel grief symptoms in advance
