Crime And Punishment Flashcards
Explain two contrasting beliefs in contemporary British society about causing suffering to others
Some Christians are generally oppose to causing others to suffer. Jesus taught a human should love each other and care for those in trouble even spoke out against using violence in self defence, because of further suffering that retaliation might cause.
One of the disciples struck the seventh of the high priest cutting off his right ear Jesus responded with “ no more of this” and he healed.
However, as no human is perfect Christians, believe that it is inevitable that they might be the cause of suffering awesome by accident or because they months or troubles for some reason. Having course suffering, it is important that Christians are honest to themselves to other people and to guards and wake up, repairing the damage that they may have caused this way relationships can be restored. While people cannot perform physical healing acts in the way described by Luke Gracie. It’s Kelly. From this example that if it was possible that they should have the wrong that has been done on the suffering that has been caused.
Give two religious beliefs about good and evil intentions
Some Christians believe that all human have the capacity to do evil, and this is a part of humans make-up. The Augustina theodicy presents. The idea that evil is seen as an abusive free well which gods gave to humans which allows them to choose right from wrong. Therefore Saint Augustine planes, Adam and Eve, particularly Eve for evil entering the world.
However, some Christians believe that, although evil exists human, should try resisted. Jesus is teaching Christians, not retaliate or straight back at those who hurt us. “ if anyone straight to you on the right cheek, turn the other cheek also.”
“ do unto others, as you would have them do to you”
Give two different reasons why people may commit crime
Some people deliberately break laws they consider to be unjust. In 1955, Rosa Parks was arrested for breaking segregation laws by refusing to give up her seat on the bus to a white person. This act of defiance became an important symbol for the civil rights movement that eventually change unjust laws about the treatment of African Americans in the USA.. many people believe that anymore that is based on prejudice or preachers basic human rights is wrong and should be changed.
Another reason why people may commit crime is mental illness, addiction or poverty.
Give two contrasting contemporary beliefs in British society about addiction as a cause of crime
Even in the case of an addict, some Christians believe that those who break the law deserve to be punished and victims of the crime need to see that justice has been done. By punishing addicts, it acts as a deterrent to protect society, and addicts need to take responsibility for the actions.
Some Christians believe that it is important that addicts should be helped to change your ways than be punished severely so some have set up rehabilitation centres to helps addicts reform . “ hate the sin of the sinner.”
Explain to religious beliefs about breaking the law in order to get a bad law changed
“ no that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by faith in Jesus Christ.”
Some Christians may argue that the law should be followed “ obey the laws of the land”
Explain to similar religious beliefs about people who break the law
Many Christians believe that forgiveness is crucial when responding to lawbreakers lawbreakers should be forgiven and given a second chance, but they need to be punished as well to give them time to reform
“ 70×7 we must forgive”
Some Christians believe that a punishment should be as severe as the crime committed
Explain to religious beliefs about reasons why some people commit crimes
Some people deliberately break laws they consider to be unjust. In 1955, Rosa Parks was arrested for breaking segregation laws by refusing to give up her seat on the bus to a white person. This act of defiance became an important symbol for the civil rights movement that eventually change unjust laws about the treatment of African Americans in the USA.. many people believe that anymore that is based on prejudice or preachers basic human rights is wrong and should be changed.
“ no, that a man is not justified by the works of the Lord, both by faith in Jesus Christ”
Some people commit crimes due to mental health reasons and upbringing
Explain two different religious beliefs about breaking the law
Some Christians believe that if you break the law, then punishment should follow. They believe that it is unacceptable and that Saint Paul in his letter to the Romans told Christians to “ obey the laws of the land”. So they believe the punishments have to be given to lawbreakers or society would be chaotic, but at the same time the causes of crime have to be removed.
However, some Christians believe that breaking unjust laws, or sometimes acceptable . There are occasions in the past where people have deliberately broken laws they consider to be on, just such as Rosa Parks. Here act of defiance became an important symbol of the civil rights movement that eventually changed unjust laws. So Christians believe that If breaking the law is about change, then it is acceptable.. “ no that’s a man is not justified by the works of the law, but faith in Jesus Christ”
Explain to reasons why religious people should never break the law
Say ball in his letter, told the Christians “ obey the laws of the land” so they believe it is right to not break the law.
Some Christians also believe that they should never break the law because it’s dsrupts the smooth running in society. “ Blessed are the peacemakers.” they believe that they should not break the law to make sure that they are living in peace.
Explain two contrasting contemporary beliefs in British society about theft.
Christians, believe that theft is wrong because the 10 Commandments teach “ do not steal”. That has an impact on the victim and stealing may be considered less serious than other crimes, such as heat cramps or Mae there, but it’s still wrong particularly if the motive is greed. “ know that the love of money is the root of evil”
Muslims believe that potential theives should be deterred from stealing because theft causes great upset to the victim, who is property is stolen. In the quran it says “ cut off the hands of thieves, whether they are a man or a woman as a punishment for what they have done” Some teaches to “be compassionate towards the destitute”so there is sympathy towards people committing theft out of need rather than greed so they should be cared for by the community.
Explain to religious beliefs about the crime of murder
Christians believe that all life is sacred and should be protectors on cherished so any murder must be wrong by definition Christians believe that made of us should be severely punished because it goes against the 10 Commandments. “ you shall not murder.”
Additionally, in Islam, the sanctity of life is also a secret teaching, which would result in people disagreeing with murder. “ do you not take life which God has made secret” Muslims believe that it is not the power to kill and take someone’s life so murder is wrong
Explain to religious beliefs, which show that’s all hate crimes are wrong
Christianity teaches that we should ‘love thy neighbour’ and treat others how we would want to be treated which Jesus taught. This shows all hate crime is wrong as hate is the opposite of love.
The Bible states you are all one in Christ showing that nobody should be discriminated against based on physical difference . God see souls not the body.
Muslims believe everyone is equal to, nobody should feel superior to anyone else and commit crimes due to differences
Explain to aims of punishment
Deterrence -the act or process of discouraging, or preventing crimes by instilling fear, or doubt by the punishment of the person could face. An example of this is an installation of a speed camera on the road. Christians may feel that deterrent is a good reason for punishment because they do not want to be living in a dangerous and a unstable environment.
Reform -when a person reforms, they make changes to their life and character to make themselves a better person and a benefit to society and example of this is giving them opportunities to gain qualifications such as GCSEs, which will help them do something positive for the lives when they come out of prison. The parable of the lost Son thought that Christians should be open to criminals reforming, and should one to welcome them back to society.
Explain two contrasting beliefs in contemporary British society about whether retribution is it good form of punishment
Some Christians would agree that there tribution is an important aim of punishment because in the old Testament it teaches “ an eye for an eye tooth for a tooth” can you believe that a punishment should be infected on someone as a vengeance for a wrong or criminal act
However, some Christians believe that retribution is not an appropriate aim for punishment because Jesus taught that we should forgive those that’s in and do bad things “ love your enemies and pray for those that persecute you”
Explain to similar religious beliefs about the use of community service as a punishment
Christians usually support community service as it is a suitable way to reform a criminal or sell. Communities can benefit with damage, repaired or expertise shared. Community service office to offend a chance to make up for what they’ve done, and to receive help in reforming in their behaviour. “ hate the sin not the sinner”
Muslims believe that community service is not a good enough punishment because its not enough to protect society. Such sentences are rarely used in the sharia law because they are not considered enough of a deterrent to protect society.. in the case of Tessia community crimes, the sentence could range from punishments are not specified in the sharia law, jailing, defining, or sending offender to rehabilitation centre
