Religion is the main cause of war’
Some religious people believe in the concept of a holy war/ a holy war is fighting for a religious cause or God/ probably controlled by a religious leader/ these believers think that it is justifiable to defend their faith from attack.
Religion has been a cause of such wars in the past/ e.g.
There are many examples of conflicts that involve different religious groups/ e.g. Catholics and Protestants in Northern Ireland during the ‘Troubles’/ Israeli-Palestinian conflict/ conflict in India and Pakistan between Muslims and Hindus.

Religion is not the main cause of wars: greed, self-defence and retaliation are all more common causes/ academic studies have found that religion plays a minor role in the majority of conflicts/ most wars have many causes
Christians today believe they should defend their faith by reasoned argument, not violence/ many Christians think no war can be considered ‘holy’ when there is great loss of life/ “Put your sword back in its place,’ Jesus said,’ for all who draw the sword die by the sword
Pacifism is not possible in modern society
Some Christians may agree because society is so diverse and divided by politics, religion, etc
Since the pandemic people have lost the ability to disagree, agreeably, people are cruel online and this causes conflict, riots etc

We value human life in modern society – Sanctity of life – we are always striving to protect life so pacifism is possible
Some Christians/ Quakers would argue that we should always strive for peace and pacifism. The Bible teaches that “blessed are the peacemakers” which means that God rewards those who strive towards peaceful means instead of violenc
