Cranial Nerves 👸🏾 Flashcards
Cranial Nerve II
Optic (sensory)
Vision from the retina
Optic nerves -> optic chiasma-> optic tract
Cranial Nerve III
Oculomotor (motor)
Supplies motor fibers to four of the extrinsic muscles that move the eye - superior rectus, medial rectus, inferior rectus and inferior oblique
*constrict the pupil and controls the shape of the lens for near and far vision
Cranial Nerve IV
Trochlear (motor)
Motor fibers to the superior oblique muscle of the eye
Cranial Nerve V
Trigeminal (mixed)
Sensory: face sensation of touch / also pain “from the face”
Motor: masseter muscle/tempoarlis muscle for chewing
Cranial Nerve VI
Abducens - motor
Motor fibers to the lateral muscle of the eye
Cranial Nerve VII
Facial - mixed
Sensory: taste
Motor: lacrimal (tears) gland, salivary glands and skeletal facial muscles
Cranial Nerve VIII
Vestibulocochlear - sensory
Sensory from the internal ear for balance (vestibular part) and hearing (cochlear part)
Cranial Nerve IX
Glossopharyngeal - mixed
Sensory: taste (some impulses for BP brought to the brain, from arteries in the neck)
Motor: salivary gland and muscles of the pharynx (swallowing)
Cranial Nerve X
Vagus - mixed
Sensory: taste (brings sensory impulses from internal organs to the brain)
Motor: salivary glands, swallowing, voice muscles
-autonomic fibers to many abdominal organs such as heart, lung, liver, stomach, intestines etc
Autonomic: ⤵️❤️rate, ⤴️ juice productivity in digestive
Cranial Nerve XI
Accessory - motor
Motor to sternocleidomastoid and trapezius muscle
“Helps you lift up shoulders and turn head”
Cranial Nerve XII
Hypoglossal - motor
Motor to tongue muscle
Cranial Nerve I
Olfactory (sensory)
Sense of smell to the brain
