cranial cavity Flashcards
meninges of brain
pia mater- on brain
CSF
arachnoid mater-separates the dura mater from the CSF
Duramater- outer most layer, covers until spinal cord, so epidural anesthesia only affects the spinal nerves- meningeal layer touching brain and periosteal layer touching skull
epidural space in skull is separate from the epidural space in the spinal cord
dural venous sinuses
fluid (Blood) filled, two layers of dura mater split to form venous blood filled openings. CSF always made by choroid plexus and then filtered out by arachnoid granulations
- superior venous sinus
- transverse (lateral) sinus
- straight sinus
- superior petrosal sinus
- inferior petrosal sinus
- cavernous sinus- recieves blood from superior ophalmic sinus which recieves facial venous blood
emisary veins
connect superficial veins to deep vein
cerebral veins (bridging veins)
bridging the dural venous sinuses and the veins that are going down into the brain itself
middle meningeal artery
on outside of dura mater
innervation of the dura mater
trigeminal nerve is the major nerve supply to the dura mater (headaches)
meningeal branch of V1- brings innervation to tentorium cerebelli and a little in the front of cranium. (above upper eyelid)
branch of v2- medial temporal region (lower eyelid to upper lip)
branch of v3- lateral temporal region (lower lip and jaw)
