CQMV Windshear Flashcards
Immediately initiate the windshear escape maneuver whenever the flight path control…
Becomes marginal on takeoff or landing. Do not wait for the GPWS or predictive windshear aural warning
Predictive Windshear Alerts (PWS) caution and warning conditions
- Caution: “Monitor radar display”
2. Warnings: “Windshear ahead, windshear ahead”; “Go around, windshear ahead”
Action for PWS caution
An ATC- coordinated change of course may be appropriate to avoid PWS symbol
Action for PWS warning
Perform a normal go-around using max thrust and continue straight ahead
Condition: GPWS senses windshear encounter
“Windshear, windshear, windshear”
Reactive windshear escape maneuver
“Max thrust, stow speed brake”
- Press TO/GA switch
- Aggressively apply maximum thrust (mechanical stops)
- Disconnect autothrottle
- Simultaneously roll wings level and rotate towards 15 degrees.
- Retract speed brakes
- Follow flight director TO/GA guidance (if available)
If ground contact is imminent, disregard flight director and…
increase pitch up to pitch limit indicator.
Use intermittent stick shaker as the upper limit for pitch until…
warning ceases and terrain clearance is assured
PM duties during windshear escape maneuver
- Ensure maximum thrust set
- Verify all required actions have been completed
- Call out aircraft climbing and descending trends and RA
- Make pilot report
Takeoff initiation or descent < 1000’ prohibited when
- Microburst
- Microburst alert
- Shears of 30 kts or greater
Flight deck indications of sever windshear (<1000’ and one or more of the following)
- +/- One dot displacement from glideslope
- +/- Five degree pitch attitude
- +/- 15 kts indicated airspeed
- +/- 500 FPM vertical speed
- Unusual throttle position for a significant period of time
