A
Weather conditions at the departure airport are below landing minimums.

When is a destination alternate required (FAR)?
A
- 1 hr before and 1 hr after estimated time of arrival at destination airport
- Ceiling will be less than 2000 ft
- Visibility will be less than 3 miles

What is the 1-1-2 alternate rule
A
- 1 hr before and 1 hr after the ETA at the destination airport
- Ceiling will be less than 1000’
- Visibility will be less than 2 miles

When is United authorized to use the 1-1-2 rule?
A
- Destination must have suitable CAT II or CAT III approach that is available for use
- Aircraft must be CAT II or CAT III capable
- May not be used with Dual Alternates
- Flight plan will show 1-1-2 RULE in lieu of an alternate name.
