Vitriolage (vitriol throwing)

A

Throwing of H2SO4 on another individual is called vitriolage
- jealous person may throw a corrosive to disfigure & harm their enemies
- burns are painless, penetrating
-repair is slow , scar tissue causes contracture, death result from shock &toxaemia if extensive area involved

Carboluria

Urine is

A

Clr less/slightly green at 1st , turns green or black on exposure to air
# In body, phenol normally oxidised to hydroquinone & pyrocatechol but unchanged phenol excreted in urine
#further oxidation causes 🟢 colour urine,known as carboluria.

Signs &symptoms of oxalic acid
1) Fulminating poisoning
Large + conc. dose of 15 gm or more -produce immediate symptoms
-death with in minutes

A

burning pain from👄to stomach,pain begins in epigastrium, soon radiates all over abdomen there may be tenderness

Mouth - burning, sour, bitter taste
Throat - constriction around throat

#Fulminating poisoning
Vomit , thirst ,when death occurs?

A

Nausea,eructations immediately follows vomit it contains blood,mucus has a coffee ground appearance

#thirst is present
#death occurs before bowels are effected, if prolonged diarrhoea occur

Symptoms of hypocalcaemia & less by digestive upset 😞
-muscle irritability & tenderness
-tetany or usually convulsions
-numbness & tingling of fingertips,legs
Signs of cvs collapse, stupor&coma

3) delayed poisoning

A

Symptoms are Uraemia
# Urine - scanty, contain traces of blood albumin, calcium oxalate crystals
# metabolic acidosis & ventricular fibrillation

Treatment of oxalic acid poisoning 8
1) stomach washed carefully using Ca-lactate, gluconate
2) antidote preparation of Ca which convert poison to insoluble Ca-oxalate

A

3) Ca-gluconate 10℅in 10ml intravenous at frequent interval
4) parathyroid extract 100units severe
5)dialysis or exchange transfusion
6) demulcent drinks
7) bowels evacuated by castor oil
8) symptomatic
