Copper Cabling - CompTIA Network+ N10-009 - 1.5 Flashcards
“Transmit+” and “Transmit-“:
These labels indicate the wires used to send data, with the ‘+’ carrying a positive signal and the ‘-‘ carrying a negative signal, effectively canceling out external interference picked up along the cable.
Balanced Pair Operation:
Two wires within a pair carry equal and opposite electrical signals, allowing for noise cancellation when the receiving device compares the signals at the other end.
another word for cable standards
category standards
what is the minimum cable category for 1000BASE-T
Cat 5
RG-6
Coaxial used in TV and digital cable over highspeed internet over cable.
Twinax
two inner conductor cables.
advantages of twinax
full duplex, common on 10 gigabit ethernet
plenum
a space in a building that allows for air circulation for heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC). It’s usually located between the ceiling and the floor above.
What are traditional cable jackets made out of
Polyvinyl chloride (PVC)
What is a FEP rated cable
Fluorinated ethylene polymer (FEP)
downside to plenum rated cable
not as flexible, not same bend radius
Category 3 (Cat 3) cables can support data speeds of
10 Mbps
Category 4 (Cat 4) cables can support data speeds of
16 Mbps
Category 5 (Cat 5) cables can support data speeds of
100 Mbps
Category 5e (Cat 5e) cables can support data speeds of
1 Gbps
Category 6 (Cat 6) cables can support data speeds of
10 Gbps
