Compare and contrast various devices, their features, and their appropriate placement on the network. Flashcards
Routers
Layer three device.
Default gateway configured here. Used to communicate between router and outside world
NAT
IP address reserved to us from out ISP. Use a single public address on our router.
Hub
Layer 1 device.
Broadcasting device. If one device is sending data through hub that packet will be broadcast to all devices on the hub. (Signal amplification.)

A Hub feature. Collision Domain. Two or more ports on a hub sending traffic on at any given time. if there is a Collision, traffic will have to wait until traffic is clear.
Very cheap.

Access points pre shared key.
one single encrypted login.
How are AP powered?

How do you maintain internet signal when traveling from AP to AP
Roming functionality.
Bridge
allow us to segment network into domains. Filter network traffic based on mac addresses. Layer 2.
WLAN controler
Device we use to mange and control all access points on wireless network. Interface with software that manges and configured all APs.
Load Balancer
network device or software. It distributes network traffic across multiple servers.
designed to have high availability.
Also perform content switching. specific servers for specific types of traffic. one server all web traffic. database server.
