Maintenance of FW systems (Holding Tanks)?
* **Six Monthly** - Thoroughly pumped out and hosed prior to filling if necessary. * **Annually** - Emptied, Opened, ventilated and inspected, be thoroughly cleaned and recoated as required. Should be disinfected with 50ppm chlorine solution. * **Refit/Drydock** - Entire system from all outlets should be superchlorinated with 50ppm for 12 hours and refilled with 0.2ppm. * **Not exceeding 5 years** - Pressure test on all of the tanks. system to be thoroughly flushed through with PW.

Fresh water safety plan is a risk assesment and management approach that covers the process from loading to delivery of the FW syste, and includes inspection/maintenance requirements. Can be incorperated in the ships planned maintenance system
