What is a Consumer?
A consumer is anyone who buys goods or uses services
As consumers our decisions to buy goods and services are affected by our
Needs and wants
Examples of everyday consumers buy goods
Food, clothes , cars

Wants are the extras that make life more luxurious e.g TV holidays and designer clothes

Something you must do and for which you are answerable

- The rights to choice
- The right to equality and value for money.
- The right to accurate information
- The right to safety
Goods are tested during manufacturing this is called QUALITY CONTROL. - The right to redress.
This can take form if one of the Three Rs
- free repair
-full / partial refund
-replacement
Why is a monopoly
Where one manufacturer/supplier provides a service that there’s no competition. E.g iarnóid éirinn (trains)
Name 5 consumers responsibilities
- be informed about goods, services and prices
- examine goods/services before buying
- read labels/follow instructions and consider warnings
- complain if consumer rights have been refused/ laws been broken
- be environmental aware when choosing/ using resources
