Radar Departures {Departures and Arrivals on Parallel or non intersecting diverging runways}

Authorize simultaneous operations between an aircraft departing on a runway and an aircraft on final approach to another parallel or non intersecting diverging runway

IF

The departure course diverges immediately by at least how many degrees from what point? What other conditions have to be met?

A

30 degrees from the missed approach course until separation is applied.

> when parallel runway thresholds are even, the runway center lines are at least 2,500’ apart

> when parallel runway thresholds are staggered and

 - the arriving aircraft is approaching the nearer runway: the center lines are at least 1,000’ apart and the landing thresholds are staggered at least 500’ for each 100’ less than 2,500 the center lines are separated.
- the arriving aircraft is approaching farther runway: the runway center lines separation exceeds 2,500’ by at least 100 feet for each 500 feet the landing thresholds are staggered

> when nonintersecting runways diverge by 15 degrees or more and runway edges do not tough

> when the aircraft on takeoff is a helicopter, hold the helicopter until visual separation is possible or apply the separation criteria above.

Opposite Direction Take-Offs and Landings

Once an arriving aircraft is at or within 10 miles from the runway in use, do not allow the aircraft making an approach to the other runway to proceed closer than 10 miles to the runway, until the first aircraft does one of the following:

A

> makes a full stop landing
executes a missed approach and is established on a course or at an altitude that ensures approved separation
begins a circling maneuver

Opposite Direction Take-Offs and Landings

Arrival vs. Departure

Do not allow an arriving aircraft to proceed closer than 10 miles to the runway, until a departure (low approach/touch and go/stop and go aircraft) has done what?

A

Crossed the departure end of the runway and is established on a course or at an altitude that ensures approved separation

Opposite Direction Take-Offs and Landings

Departure vs. Arrival

Do not allow a departing aircraft to takeoff when an arriving aircraft is at or within 10 miles of the runway, until the arriving aircraft does on of the following:

A

> makes a full stop landing
executes a missed approach and is established on a course or at an altitude, which ensures approved separation
pilots requesting opposite direction approaches/departures can expect lengthy delays when other aircraft are operating on the runway in use.
