APPLY MERGING TARGET PROCEDURES Flashcards
(5-1-8)
Merging Target Procedures
Except while they are established in a holding pattern, apply merging target procedures to all radar identified:
> aircraft at 10,000 feet and above
turbojet aircraft regardless of altitude
presidential aircraft regardless of altitude
(7-3-1)
VFR-on-top
Although IFR separation is not applied, controllers must continue to provide traffic advisories and safety alerts, and apply:
Merging target procedures to aircraft operating VFR-on-top
(5-1-8)
Merging Target Procedures
Issue traffic info to aircraft at 10,000’ and above, turbojet aircraft regardless of altitude, presidential aircraft regardless of altitude that likely to merge unless:
The aircraft are separated by more than the appropriate vertical separation minima
(5-1-8)
Merging Target Procedures
When both aircraft that appear likely to merge are in RVSM airspace, and vertically separated by 1,000’, if either pilot reports they are unable to maintain RVSM due to turbulence or mountain wave, what do you do?
> vector either aircraft to avoid merging with the target of the other aircraft.
(5-1-8)
Merging Target Procedures
What can the pilot request when targets appear likely to merge?
Vector their aircraft to avoid merging with the target of previously issue traffic.
(5-1-8)
Merging Target Procedures
If you are unable to provide vector service, what do you have to do?
Inform the pilot
