Context - What Makes Something Funny? Flashcards
MAP, THREES, STRUCTURE are not inherently funny. Among jokes that
I like, what contextual qualities make them funny? That funniness defines
my sense of humor. Knowing this
will enable me to create humor.
Select a group of jokes that I like and identify key contextual qualities that make them funny - ideally common qualities - select another group of jokes and repeat the process over and over again until common qualities within
all of the groups of jokes are identified
Patterns and Games - Improv concepts - consider that context may in some way be associated with patterns and games (something below complete thought)
Potential Ideas
Maybe attitude? Maybe what they are not? (not nasty, not mean, not angry, no vicious, not cynical) - maybe about experience - maybe about social activity - maybe intuition - maybe knowing without knowing - maybe like sports (just know) - maybe doing thing, not thinking thing
Maybe illusive like happiness
You can’t seek happiness directly - has to be indirect consequence of activity
Maybe opportunistic behavior - looking for way to make someone laugh - more improvisational than we imagine
