Misleading Descriptions (Consumer Protection Act 2007)
Sellers cannot deceive consumers, or withhold necessary information. This includes inaccurate claims of weight, ingredients, or country of origin
Aggressive Practices (Consumer Protection Act 2007)
Tradesmen cannot force a consumer to buy a product, using physical force or otherwise. They cant make a consumer buy something they would not under normal circumstances
Prohibited Practices (Consumer Protection Act 2007)
Certain Practices are prohibited
- False claims
- Running competitions where it costs money to claim the prize
- Claiming that a business is closing down, even if it is not
Price Display Regulations (Consumer Protection Act 2007)
The minister for jobs, enterprise, and innovation has the power to require that the price of certain products be displayed.
- Full price must be shown, inclusive of relevant taxes
- Price must be labelled
- Goods sold by weight must show price per kg
Price Controls (Consumer Protection Act 2007)
Allows price controls to be introduced in an emergency situation. Must be approved by the government.
