Lifestyle advice
- increase fluid intake
- increase mobility
Medication
- change/withhold constipating drugs e.g. opiates
- osmotic laxatives (draw water into the stool) such as lactulose
- bulk-forming laxatives - bran
stimulant laxatives - movicol or glycerine suppository
