• Uncvlean water and poor sanitation gives rise to diseases such as cholera, and lack of medicines and vaccines leads to a higher death rate
• LICs have high infant mortality rates (E.g. Angola: 56.9 deaths per 100 live births) low life expectancies (Mali: 57 years)

• Nearly 50% of worlds pop live on less than $2.5 dollars a day
• In sunb-Saharan Africa, over 40% of the pop lives in extreme poverty
• Even in NEEs that have experienced recent economic growth, wealth disparity is a big problem - Nig has one of the greatest level of wealth inequality in the world. Nigeria’s GDP grew at an average rate of 5.7%/ year in 2006-2016 - however more than 112 mill ppl still live in poverrty due to corruption and the unequal ditribution of wealth

Bc of huge wealth disparities between countries, HOCs have a greater pull factor than LICs - skilled ppl in LICS often seek a better life in HICS, draining LICS of skilled workers

• In 2015, 1.38 mill foreign born individuals moved to US - a 2% increase from 2014. Many of these immigrants were lured by better job prospects, better healthcare and higher quality of life
• Conflict in Africa and the Middle East has also pushed many to seek new homes, resulting in a huge increase in migration to Europe
