Connective Tissue Part 2 Flashcards
Function of fibroblasts?
produce fibers and ground substance
Endothelial cells interaction and function?
- pericyte = stem cell of endothelial cell
- basement membrane
- lines blood vessels (continuous vs fenestrated - open)
Function of mast cells?
mediate allergic and inflammatory response
- composed of granules
What does a mast cell contain?
react to antigens to release granules
- heparin (prevent blood clots)
- histamine (blood vessels leak)
- chemotactic factors (contract smooth muscle)
Function of macrophages?
remove senescent cells, cellular debris, invading organisms, cancer cells
- from blood monocytes
Function of plasma cells?
- secrete antibodies
- from activated beta-lymphocytes
- negative golgi with clock-face nucleus
3 types of leukocytes and their functions?
neutrophils – migrate and kill foreign cells
eosinophils – fight parasites
lymphocytes – trigger immune response
Loose CT location, ratio, function, components?
- under epithelium
- cells>fibers
- carry vessel and nerves
- Type I and III collagen + elastic fibers
Dense RCT location, ratio, function?
- ligaments
- fibers>cells
- minimal regeneration
- collagen bundles one direction and fibroblasts
Dense IR CT location, ratio, function, components?
- between organs
- fibers>cells
- resilient and protective
- collagen bundles diverse and fibrocytes (in rows)
Reticular CT location, function and components?
- hematopoietic organs
- lymphocyte migration
- type III collagen
Adipose tissue function?
stores fat
- similar to loose CT
Brown vs White adipose tissue?
Brown
- lipid droplets broken b/c lots of mitochondria
- heat generation
White
- lipid vacuole with peripheral nucleus
