Cerebrum and Cerebellum Flashcards
What are the 3 layers in early brain development? Forebrain?
ectoderm
mesoderm
endoderm
- neural plate –> neural tube –> forebrain
4 Layers of Meninges?
dura matter – connect to skull
arachnoid – loose CT
sub-arachnoid – CSF + blood vessel
pia matter – line brain and enters indents
Blood brain barrier made of?
endothelial cells
tight junctions (impermeability)
astrocytes (maintain integrity)
Gray vs White Matter?
Gray
- neuropil (neurons, dendrites, axons)
- blood vessels
White
- axon, glia, MYELIN
- fibers>cell bodies
Components in cerebrum?
sulcus (sulci) = indent
gyrus (gyri) = folds
Components in cerebellum?
folium (folia) = parallel foldings
Hippocampus location and contains?
adjacent to cortex
dentate gyrus – densely packed cell bodies
Organization of cortex?
molecular layer (no cell bodies)
external granular layer
external pyramidal cell layer
inner granular layer (major input layer)
inner pyramidal cell layer (big output neurons)
multiform cell layer
3 layers of cerebellum?
molecular layer – mostly dendrites
granular layer – lots of neurons
Purkinje layer (contain Purkinje cells)
