Connective Tissue Flashcards
What is the most abundant type of tissue
Connective Tissue
What is the function of Connective Tissue
Connect, Support, Protect
What are some characteristics of connective tissue?
Some have good circulation, Some DO NOT have regeneration, FEW cells called fibroblasts, Has Fibers, and A matrix
What are fibers? and what are the two types?
Collagen fibers, provide strength to tissues, Two types Elastic Fibers and Reticular fibers
What do elastic fibers do?
Elasticity and the ability to recoil
What are reticular fibers and what do they do
They are branched collagens and they provide support
What is a matrix? What is it used for?
It is a chemical, nonliving, EXTRACELLULAR or INTERCELLULAR (in between). It is used to classify connective tissue
What are the three types of connective tissue
Bone, Cartilage, and Blood
Connective tissues with hard and solid matrix
Bone
Connective tissue with semi solid matrix is called
Cartilage
Connective tissue with liquid matrix is called
Blood
Connective Tissue Proper
Simple Connective Tissue that Supports, Connects, and Protects
What are the connective tissue proper types?
Arreolar, Adipose, Fibrous, and Elastic
What are specialized connective tissue?
Bones, Cartilage and blood
What is arreolar connective tissue?
Has a jelly matrix, few cells, WBC’s, Connects and protects
What is adipose tissue?
Fat, with no regeneration
What is fibrous connective tissue? How many types are there?
Collagen fibers. Two types. Regular : parallel collagen
Irregular: skin/ dermis layers, tendons and ligaments
What is elastic connective tissue?
Ability to recoil, elastic fibers. EXAMPLE: Lungs
How many types of cartilages are there?
- Hyaline, Elastic and Fibrocartilage
Most abundant cartilage, at the end of bones and walls of airways
Hyaline Cartilage
Has elastic fibers in matrix, Located in ears and epiglottis
Elastic Cartilage
Has collagen fibers in matrix, very strong, located in between vertebrae columns (discs)
Fibrocartilage
