Cell Transportation Flashcards
If sugar is added to water and the result is sweet water. What would be another term for the combination of water and sugar?
Solution. Only because the sugar (solute) DISSOLVED into the Water(solvent) They both created a solution.
Water + Sugar = Sweet/Sugary water. Which is the solvent?
Water
Water + Sugar= Sweet Water
Which is the solute?
Sugar
What is the term for a solvent that had a substance added to it and it did NOT dissolve?
Suspension
Semipermeable/ Selectively Permeable
The plasma membrane. Keeps most things inside / outside. However some chemicals can diffuse hence semi and selectively
Transportation with No energy required . From high to low.
Passive Transportation
How many kinds of passive transportation are there?
- Simple diffusion. Facilitated diffusion. Osmosis. Filtration
What is active transportation?
Requires ATP. Goes from a low concentration to a high concentration
How many types of active transportation are there?
Three
Carrier Proteins, Endocytosis(Phagocytosis and Pinocytosis) and Exocytosis
What do carrier proteins do?
They are pumps. Located in the plasma membrane. They transport chemicals from LOW TO HIGH concentrations. Require ATP
Endocytosis: and how many categories?
Chemicals too later to ENTER the cell by any other means, ENTER by Endocytosis. Two types : Phagocytosis: solid “food” and Pinocytosis: liquid “drinking”
Exocytosis
Chemicals too large to LEAVE by any other means, end up LEAVING by Exocytosis
