Cell Division Flashcards
Mitosis
Cell division. To repair or replace
How does mitosis work?
Replication : doubling of DNA
In a cells life/cycle, what percent of their cycle is spent in mitosis?
5-10%
Aside from the time spent in mitosis during the cell cycle. What is the remaining time spent in?
Interphase. 90-95% of cell cycle
The non-dividing phase of a cell
Interphase
Doubling the DNA is known as ______
Replication
4 stages of Mitosis , in order
PROPHASE
METAPHASE
ANAPHASE
TELOPHASE
1st step of Mitosis:
Prophase. Nuclear envelope and all organelles disappear , EXCEPT the centrioles
Second step of Mitosis:
METAPHASE: Chromosomes line up in the middle of the cell
Third step of Mitosis:
ANAPHASE: Chromosomes break and move to the two poles (ends) of the cell
Final Step of Mitosis:
TELOPHASE: Nuclear envelope and organelles reappear. CLEAVAGE FURROW is seen
Three steps of Cell Division
Replication
Mitosis
Cytokinesis
Doubling Cytoplasm. Separation of TWO daughter cells’ cytoplasm
Cytokinesis
