Conduct Point Out Procedures Flashcards
What is a point out?
Transfers radar identification of an aircraft to another controller if the aircraft will enter another airspace where radio comm will not be transferred
Before you issue a control instruction that will change heading, route, speed or altitude, ensure that
You coordinate with the facilities that will be affected
What are the things every point out needs?
Position, acid, type, altitude, additional information
Transfer control only after eliminating any potential
Conflict with other aircraft you have separation responsibility for
Assume control of an aircraft only after it is in
Your area of jurisdiction
What is the difference between handoff and point outs?
Handoff: transfers radar identification and radio communications
Point out: transfers radar identification, does not transfer radio comm
What are three ways to get a point out?
- Physically point to the target on the receiving controller’s display
- Landline voice communications
- Automation
How do you respond to a handoff, point-out or traffic restrictions?
(ACID), (restrictions if applicable), RADAR CONTACT
Or
(ACID or beacon code), (restrictions), POINT OUT APPROVED
OR
TRAFFIC OBSERVED
OR
UNABLE
When issuing traffic for coordinating separation, the controller issuing traffic must issue
The appropriate restrictions
The controller accepting the restrictions must be responsible to ensure that
Approved separation is maintained between the aircraft involved
Verbal approval must be given before
Permitting an aircraft to enter the receiving controller’s airspace
After the point out has been approved, you have to obtain the receiving controllers approval before
Making any changes to the aircraft’s flight path, altitude, speed or data block information
Arrival is not required to obtain a point-out for an aircraft on local climb-out with
Approach
Keep all aircraft at least 3 miles from the
Arrival airspace boundary, or obtain the point-out with GAR
ACAD or AA will provide point-outs for aircraft transitioning GAR’s airspace during the
Departure phase of flight
during RWY 17 ops at GFK when aircraft are given an automatic release of 080 by tower, ACAD and AA are not required to give
A point out to GAR
when RAPCON is issuing manual releases off of GFK and tower cannot provide appropriate divergence separation, successive IFR departures shall be separated by a minimum of
1 minute and 20 degrees divergence.
