Components Of Fitness Flashcards
Aerobic energy production definition
Use of oxygen. It is determined by the ability of the respiration and circulatory systems to deliver nutrients and oxygen to the working muscles and the ability of the muscles to use the supply.
Being able to keep going at activity for a long period of time without getting tired
Anaerobic energy production definition
Without the use of oxygen. It is determined by the ability of the muscles and liver to store fuel and the ability of the muscle to utilise this fuel.
Perform very high intensity’s or maximum effort
Muscular power definition
Determined by the ability of the muscle or group of muscles to produce maximum force or s considerate force with speed in an explosive motion.
Eg weight lifting 🏋️♂️
Muscular strength definition
Determine by the ability of a muscle or group of muscles to produce near maximum force in a short period of time
Eg tug of war
It is about being able to lift, push, pull or move heavy things easily
Muscular speed definition
Determine by the ability of a muscle or group of muscles to contract and release quickly.
Eg badminton, tennis shots, golf strokes
It is the ability to apple a moderate small force at high speed
Muscular endurance definition
Determine by the ability of a muscle or group of muscles to work for a long period of tome at less than max effort.
eg continuous action of legs in cycling long distance
Flexibility definition
Determine by the ability of the muscles and ligaments surrounding joints to stretch to allow full range of movement at the joints.
Eg splits
Is the ability to bend, twist, starch, turn easily
Energy production for physical health
Aerobic important as needed for everyday life, whereas anaerobic is of little importance.
Eg walking
Not many everyday tasks demand high intensity efforts.
Only occasionally eg sprint to get a bus
Muscular fitness and flexibility for physical health
Muscular endurance and strength
Shopping bags
Moving arm chair
Most everyday tasks require you to bend, twist, turn or stretch eg tie shoe lace
Why do you need to be able to decide on the relative importance of each component of fitness?
💜 first step on planning an appropriate and effective training program
💜makes training specific
💜helps you decide how much time you should spend on each component
Body composition
Relative among of water, muscle and bone
Endomorph
Short and fat
Sumo wrestler
Ectomorph
Talk and skinny
Long distance runner
Mesomorph
Muscular
Weight lifter
