what is triage?
using a systematic method to organize/treat patients in an emergency care setting by sorting them into 3 categories:
- require immediate care (ex. heart attack)
- require urgent care (ex. stitches for a cut)
- require standard care + can wait (ex. sinus infection)
rapid assessment
- chief complaint (+ history of it)
- medical history
- last consumption
- airway (compromised?)
- breathing (gas exchange)
- circulation (BP/pulse)
- disability (level of consciousness + pupils)
- exposure (remove clothing for traumatic injuries)
- full vital signs
- comfort measures (pain management)
- head to toe assessment
