Common fibular nerve Flashcards
What are the nerve roots of the common fibular nerve?
L4 - S3
Where does the common fibular nerve arise?
Popliteal fossa
What does the common fibular nerve do in the popliteal fossa?
Gives rise to two cutaneous branches
- sural nerve - contributes to it
- lateral sural nerve
Where does the common fibular nerve travel?
Inferiorly and laterally
What does the common fibular nerve enter after the popliteal fossa?
Lateral leg
How does the common fibular nerve enter the lateral leg?
Wraps around neck of fibula
beneath fibularis longus muscle
What does the common fibular nerve do at the neck of fibula?
Divies into
- superficial fibular nerve
- deep fibular nerve
What is the sensory innervation of the sural nerve?
Lower posterior and lateral leg
Lateral foot
What is the sensory innervation of the lateral sural nerve?
Upper lateral leg
