Vasco da Gama
born in 1460s, portugese soldier in the 1490s, the king assigns him to take over french ships and in 1497, the king assigns him an expedition to go around africa into india to discover a sea route. he arrives at calicut in may of 1498. Here there are traders from all around the world. He then goes back to portugal in august 1498 and arrives in september 1499.
Christopher Columbus
born in 1451 in Italy. his father sold and produced cloth so he went overseas at an early age. He then takes his expedition idea to find a new route to India to spanish court in 1485 but there was no interest. He then took his idea back to court in 1492 and left August 3rd 1492 with 3 ships. on October 12th, he discovers Sans Salvidore and discovered the Arawaks, but he believes he is in Asia and believes he has discovered a new route there

in April 1586, spain tries to use the island to invade China by offering the King of the island wealth from china. They wanted to do this for religion and wealth and believed it was possible because they had done the same thing in many other countries. the spanish were never able to conquer china.
Hernan Cortes
an only child from spain, went to the Caribbean at age 19 and worked as a soldier. He then sets sail illegally in 1519, beginning at Cuba. He travels to cazumel island and met a spaniard that was shipwrecked and could translate from mayan to spanish. He is then given Dona Marina as a slave which allows cortes to speak to almost any native. in april 1519, cortes finds the city of Valicruz. He then begins to find divisions within the aztec empire and begins to form allies before taking montezuma hostage. the spaniards then come to arrest cortes but he instead convinces them to join him on his mission. upon his return, many aztecs were massacred so he has to flea. august 15, 1521 the aztec leader was captured and forced to surrender.

the aztecs, last ancient civilization to live in mesoamerica, captured and sacrificed many people, had a lot of gold and wealth, live in tenochtitlan

modern day mexico city, built in the middle of a lake, where the aztecs lived
