Communist governments are defeated in ‘free elections’ all over Eastern Europe.
As the Eastern Bloc disintegrated the Warsaw Pact could no longer survive
Warsaw Pact officially disbanded in March and July of 1991

Used 1,400 exiled Cubans, trained them & 7th April 1961 invaded

Failed due: lack military experience & lack – support, Castro found out & sent 20,000 soldiers & crushed rebellion

USA couldn’t help with airstrike - would show attack from USA however wrecked plane showed USA’s involvement – humiliated

Now possibility Nuclear weapons would be supplied – Cuba despite fact Khrushchev reassured Kennedy he would not.

Looked like Americans acting like Soviets (trying – support – armed uprising – independent country against gov)
